Carson City Undersheriff Jerome Tushbant graduated from the FBI National Academy on June 8, according to a news release from Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
A total of 53,435 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
“His completion of the academy marks a highlight in his personal career, as well as returns valued trainings and resources back to the community of Carson,” Furlong said in the release. “Undersheriff Tushbant has spent the last three months in the academy at Quantico, Virginia engaged in the most advanced worldwide training opportunity provided to law enforcement officers.”
Tushbant joined the CCSO executive administration in 2017 as an assistant sheriff, following his tenure as chief of Capital Police. In March 2020, after the retirement of Undersheriff Ken Sandage, Furlong promoted Tushbant to fill the vacated position.
Three other command-level officers in the sheriff’s office have completed the academy: Capt. Clay Wall, Capt. Earl Mays, and Assistant Sheriff Jim Primka.
“It is the policy and practice of the sheriff’s administration to provide this community with the highest levels of law enforcement leadership that is attainable,” Furlong said in the release. “Recognizing the intense training offered by the FBI National Academy, enrolling our leadership in the academy is a continuous drive, and we look forward to our next candidate, Capt. Daniel Gonzales, attending the same training.”
The national academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.
