The Nevada Division of Water Resources has issued a warning saying they have received several reports of well drilling scams in the Winnemucca area.
A spokesman said the victims worked with an unlicensed contractor to have a well drilled on their property. One victim gave the driller a $6,000 deposit and has since been unable to contact the driller.
The division is advising all Nevadans seeking well drilling and other such services to verify that the contractor or business has a valid well drilling license issued by the water resources division. They can do so by checking the NDWR website at bit.ly/3hjF9WE
In addition, they should contact the division to confirm the well driller has submitted notification and received approval to drill. Well drillers must receive authorization from the division before any drilling can begin.
The division can be contacted at 775-684-2800.
