The Fuji Park Exhibition Hall will be teeming with people and “meeple” March 19-20 for Carson City’s first Board Game Convention.
“Meeple” are those tiny human-like pieces in board games, and they inspired the convention’s name, “Meeple Peak,” for organizer Ron Dobyns. He’s been playing board games with friends since he moved to Northern Nevada eight years ago.
“I just like to get together with friends and have fun,” he told the Appeal, explaining his inspiration for the convention.
He’s sold over 80 tickets already, between regular sales and a Kickstarter page.
Attendees won’t be playing your “typical board games,” like Monopoly or Risk, Dobyns said. The convention will feature games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Wingspan – one of Dobyns’s favorites. All are welcome to bring their own board games too.
Competitive players will have the option to enter Play to Win games and possibly take home the board game that they win.
The Reno Video Game Symphony will play live music Saturday afternoon, and the King of Kings food truck will be there for players Saturday and Sunday. Local game store, The Nest, will be running several special events throughout the convention.
“Meeple Peak is a convention for anyone who likes to play board games to come together and share their love of the hobby,” Dobyns said.

The Fuji Park Exhibition Hall is located at 601 Old Clear Creek Road. Games will run from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
