John Goldhardt is the right pick for district
I was disappointed to hear the slew of emails that came in during the school board meeting from staff who were defending the mediocrity of our school district. There was, however, a common theme that I did appreciate: we will support whomever the board selects. I welcome our staff to support Dr. Goldhardt.
I also heard teachers say there are plenty of students who are thriving, implying we shouldn't be concerned about being 50th in the nation. Gifted students excel no matter how terrible their district is.
I graduated from Carson High in 2001 and had my share of poor teachers. I understand this concept firsthand. I'm not as concerned about the gifted students as I am for the students in the middle who lack motivation, don't have support from home, and are fine with performing at a mediocre level (which is what they are being taught). They need mentors to inspire them, which is why I am rooting for the mentor program in place at the high school. I hope it changes our students' performance. Just as I hope Goldhardt will carry out his plans of putting each student first, not settling for mediocrity. We don't want someone to fill the current superintendent's shoes, we want complete change. This requires getting back to teaching the basics of reading, writing, arithmetic, and history and focusing on the strengths and weaknesses of each student, regardless of race, color, gender, etc. We want all of our students to excel.
Here's to many years in our district and the success of every single student!
