The Carson High baseball team didn’t muster a hit through its first three innings against Bishop Manogue Tuesday afternoon, but one swing of the bat tied the ball game up in the fourth inning.
Ultimately, Bishop Manogue had the last laugh, tallying the games winning run in the top of the fifth, giving the Miners a 4-3 win over Carson.
The Senators surrendered three runs in the top of the fourth and Miner pitcher Luke Metzger was cruising at the time.
However, Carson started the bottom of the fourth with a walk and two hit by pitches to load the bases with two outs.
Cooper Eaton took a first pitch strike before blasting a ball out to left field.
Eaton’s shot went over the outfielder’s head and bounced up to the wall, allowing Eaton to clear the bases and knot the contest up against at 3-3.
“I think that’s the first time this year where we’ve answered. I’m really proud of our kids for that,” said Carson head coach Bryan Manoukian.
Though the Miners went back ahead, 4-3, in the top of the fifth, Carson wasn’t without its chances late.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Senators were able to load the bases but back-to-back strikeouts ended the frame without any damage.
In the final inning, Trey Thomas roped a two-out double, but Carson stranded Thomas in scoring positon to end the game.
“We were just hoping we could stick around and have a chance in our last AB,” said Manoukian. “We need to not have so many swings and misses in clutch situations.”

Pitching staff and other notable plays
Aden McNabb got the starting nod for the Senators and allowed four runs over four innings of work.
Thomas followed in relief and threw three scoreless innings and had a strikeout to go with his efforts.
At the dish, Carson recorded just four hits over the course of the game with Eaton, Thomas, Ian Fontaine and Ryan Marquart each picking up a knock.
Marquart also made a nice play in the opening inning to turn a double play that prevented the Miners from getting an early lead.
In the fourth inning, Caleb Morgan came in to make a quality sliding catch in shallow right field.
