On March 3, Ms. Meister’s fourth grade class from Carson Montessori participated in the final stage of their Trout in the Classroom program where they released their trout in the Carson River at Ambrose Park in Carson City.
The Trout in the Classroom program is an environmental education program in which students raise trout from eggs to fry and release them at the swim up stage. The students monitor tank water quality, engage in stream habitat study, and learn to appreciate water resources.
The students also learned about animals and plants found in and around the watershed and were able to test the water quality of the river and discuss their findings. These hands-on educational activities allow the students to connect to and better understand the watershed and their environment.
The Trout in the Classroom program is a result of a partnership between Nevada Department of Wildlife, River Wranglers, and Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space.
River Wranglers’ vision is to empower youth through outdoor watershed education. The mission is to promote stewardship of the Carson River watershed through youth mentorship and experiential education.
