Dr. John Goldhardt, candidate for Carson City School District superintendent, on Friday rejected the Carson City School Board’s original contract and withdrew his application for the position.

The Carson City School District released the following statement Friday:

"Following the Tuesday, March 22, school board meeting, President (Richard) Varner refined the terms of the superintendent proposal as directed by the board of trustees and extended the proposal to Dr. John Goldhardt. Subsequently, Dr. Goldhardt rejected the proposal and withdrew as a candidate for the superintendent position with the Carson City School District. President Varner intends to agendize the next steps in the superintendent search at a meeting in the near future."

The school board Tuesday voted to deny the terms of the contract with Goldhardt and directed board president Richard Varner to return to him with the original proposal in a 6-1 vote.
