 The Lady Wave softball team completed its sweep over the 3A West before going 1-5 in the annual Reed tournament over the weekend.
Fallon scored in double digits against South Tahoe, 20-7, on Tuesday before taking down Truckee 18-2 the following day at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex. In the Reed tournament, Fallon’s lone win came against Newark (Calif.).
Fallon travels to cross-valley rival Fernley for a three-game series that begins Friday with a 3 p.m. start. Both teams meet in Fernley on Saturday for a doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m.
Fallon 20, South Tahoe 7
In the first game of the week, a 13-run win over South Tahoe, Fallon found itself in trouble after scoring five runs in the first inning. The Vikings came back with six in the third but Fallon scored the game’s next 15 runs, including 12 in the fourth inning.
Dana Buckmaster led Fallon at the plate with five RBIs while Reece Hutchings drove in three. Lydia Bergman, Vernita Fillmore and Rochelle Premtice drove in a pair and Kiley Wallace had one RBI. Bergman and Buckmaster each tallied two doubles.
Premtice picked up the win in the circle, relieving Shayda Lofthouse, going three innings and striking out three and allowing one run.
Fallon 18, Truckee 2
Bergman smacked a grand slam in the second and finished with seven RBIs to lead Fallon to another double-digit win over the 3A West. Hutchings drove in four on three hits, including two a pair of triples.
Premtice picked up another win in the circle, giving up two runs in three innings.
Damonte Ranch 7, Fallon 5
The 5A Mustangs broke a 5-5 tie with two runs in the sixth inning of the final game of the Reed tournament.
Bergman continued her assault on opposing pitching by homering in two on a full count to tie the game at five in the fourth inning. Hutchings drove in two runs and Lofthouse, who took the loss, led the team at the plate with two hits.
Crater 9, Fallon 4
The Lady Wave had the lead briefly against the California school in the second inning before Crater came back with six unanswered runs.
Fillmore, Bergman, Darci Owens and Taralynn Vershum each had two hits for Fallon with Owens leading the team in RBIs with two. Fillmore and Vershum also each drove in a run.
Fillmore pitched all five innings, giving up four earned runs, including a homer, while striking out two and issuing no walks.
Fallon 5, Newark Memorial 3
In its only win of the tournament, Fallon came back from a 2-1 hole in the fourth with four runs thanks to singles from Maddie Keller and Wallace.
Wallace and Vershum each had two hits to lead the Lady Wave with Wallace driving in two. Bergman also drove in a run.
Fillmore pitched a complete game, striking out six and walking one.
Sutter 6, Fallon 3
Fallon was down 5-0 after two innings before closing the gap late in the game.
Bergman led the team with three hits and two RBIs, including a home run. Hutchings finished with two hits, and Vershum drove in one.
Lofthouse took the loss in the complete game.
McQueen 14, Fallon 0
Fallon kept the Lancers in check with two runs in the first two innings but McQueen erupted for eight in the final frame.
Fallon registered only two hits – Fillmore and Hutchings each doubled – while errors plagued Fillmore’s performance. The Lady Wave committed five errors as Fillmore yielded five earned runs.
