Fallon senior McCartney McAlexander continued her quest to dominate the 3A field by winning two events and placing second in two more as Fallon competed in the annual two-day Reed-Sparks Rotary Invitational last weekend at Reed High School.
McAlexander broke the school record to win the shot put on Friday before winning the high jump the next day as Fallon finished sixth – second highest among 3A teams – with 110 points.
Galena won the girls division with 208 points while Spring Creek finished second, the highest among the 3A schools, with 158. Reno (133), Manogue (122) and Reed (117) rounded out the top five.

For the boys, Reed won over McQueen, 174-136, while Carson (124), Spanish Springs (112) and Reno (110) finished in the top five. Fernley was the top 3A team with 106 points. Fallon finished 20th with 15 points.
In the boys frosh/soph division, Fallon finished 18th with 22 points as Spanish Springs won over Reed, 176-133.
Fallon hosts a small league meet on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex before competing at the Galena Invitational in south Reno on Saturday.
McAlexander and senior Maddie Stephens gave Fallon two medalists in the shot put with McAlexander throwing for 38 feet, 4.5 inches for the new school record. Stephens, in her second meet of the year, finished fourth with a mark of 31-2. Stephens also medaled in the discus with a fourth-place finish after throwing for 96-10. The top mark was 113-5.
McAlexander added her second first-place win in the high jump, leaping over the pole for a personal best 5-4. She also took second in both hurdle events, losing to Spring Creek senior Payge Walz, who won four events, in the 100 meters in 16.58 and then finishing at 49.90 in the 300 race. Walz won the 100 hurdles in 14.93 while McAlexander lost the 300 race by 0.32 seconds.
Senior Savanna Regli recorded a pair of medal finishes in the distance events. She ran a 13:06.72 to finish fifth in the 3200 and scored a personal best in the 1600 at 5:47.51, which landed her in sixth. The top times in the 1600 and 3200 were 5:06.52 and 11.25.04.
Senior Michaella Pursley finished seventh in the pole vault with a personal best of 8-6. The best mark was 11-7.
James Sorensen and Luke Sorensen were the only boys members to medal as James finished fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.82, about 2 seconds shy of first. He also took third in the frosh/soph 300 hurdles with a time of 45.26 and fourth in the frosh/soph discus with a throw of 104-9.
Luke Sorensen, a senior, finished eighth in the pole vault with a mark of 10 feet. The winning mark was 15-6.
Although they didn’t finish in the top eight to medal, the following Greenwave athletes had personal or season bests.
