greenUP! has received a $12,500 grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada, according to a news release.
The funding will be used to provide green business support for Nevada rural business communities and Nevada tribal communities on environmental best practices that will save them money, help bring about economic prosperity and address environmental justice, the release said.
The organization provides environmental education for businesses, helping reduce waste and resource consumption and fight climate change.
“It has long been my goal to work with underserved communities to provide opportunities that typically don’t exist and to level the playing field so that all businesses have the same economic advantage,” Donna Walden, president of the greenUP! board, said in the release. “Funding from the community foundation will bolster these efforts and help greenUP! achieve its mission to address climate action in the state.”
Initiatives of greenUP! include the green dining district in Carson City and working with Western Nevada College to launch the statewide Nevada Green Business Program and Network.
