After an exhilarating end to the regular season, the Oasis Academy softball team heads to this week’s 1A Northern Region tournament.

The Bighorns, who defeated Pahranagat Valley last spring for the 1A title, picked up the 1A West’s top seed and will meet No. 2 Coleville at 11 a.m. on Friday at Wells High School. The winner faces either No. 1 Wells (East) or No. 3 Smith Valley Friday afternoon. Both teams playing in the championship game, which is Saturday at 12:15 p.m., will advance to next week’s state tournament at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno.

Oasis Academy ended the regular season last week with an 11-10 win over Smith Valley on Senior Day.

The Bulldogs came back with their biggest inning, scoring five runs in the final frame to tie the game at 10 before Oasis Academy walked off with the win.

Seniors Rachel Bake and Kaitlyn Hert were recognized before the game.

Freshmen Kisten Detomasi, Lorena Rios and Taylynn Maynez each had three hits for the Bighorns, driving in two runs each except for Rios, who had three RBIs.

Detomasi pitched the team to the win, going all seven innings with 12 strikeouts and two earned runs allowed despite eight walks.
