Carson High's Nicholas Batien turns the corner in the boys 800 meter run at the Class 5A North regional track and field meet. Batien was second in the event and qualified for the state meet this coming weekend.

Carson High track and field will be sending a number of athletes to the state track and field meet after the three-day regional meet last week.
As a team, the Senator boys were fifth with 74 points while the girls took seventh with 58 team points.
Punching their ticket on the boys side, started with senior Nick Batien, who was third in the 400-meter dash in 50.87.
The senior turned around for the 800 meter finals and took second in1:58.32.
After easily winning a regional title in the pole vault last Tuesday, fellow senior Kai Miller was also a state qualifier in the 110-meter hurdles, posting a second place finish in 15.37.
Carson’s 4x800 relay team won the regional title in 8:25.87, which was nearly 20 seconds faster than any previous time the foursome had posted this season.
Zane Ferguson qualified in both the shot put and the discus with finishes of fourth and second, in each respective event.
Ferguson recorded a throw of 46–10.75 in the shot put while hurling the discus 143–10.
On the girls’ side, Natalyn Wakeling wasn’t able to defend her 100-meter dash regional title from last year, but did qualify for state in 12.85.
In the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Anne Davis made her first state tournament after taking third at the regional meet in 17.66.
In the 300 hurdles, it was sophomore Kaylynn Bloomfield posting a 50.31 to take second place for the Senators.
Carson’s relay groups had a strong showing as the 4x200 team won the regional meet. Meanwhile the the 4x100 and 4x400 relays both punched their ticket to state with a fourth and a third place finish.
