The Dust Devil 4x100 team celebrated in the infield Friday evening after qualifying in third in 46.44, setting a new personal record.
“My high school career has been filled with a whole bunch of disappointments. Sophomore year we had a pandemic. Last year we didn’t have state. This year, I found out I broke my back,” said senior anchor Noah Gibson. “I took off and just darted away.”
The foursome has been running together all season and Daniel Newby said he credits Gibson for getting him on the track two years ago.
Colin Loberg and Justin Niels ran the opening two legs for the Dust Devils.
Gibson also qualified in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.71, taking third.
In the girls’ open 400, Molly McGrew was second in 1:01.92 and will be running in the state meet.
Dayton girls’ 4x100 also qualified for the state tournament with a fourth place finish.
In the long jump, Ainsley Lau was fourth with a lead of 15 feet, seven inches while Kennedy Harris was fourth in the discus with a throw of 89–11.
