Carson area bowlers inducted into local Hall of Fame

Seven local bowlers were inducted in the inaugural class of the Carson Country Association Hall of Fame at the annual meeting for the association April 23 at Carson Lanes. Carson Country is the local association of the U.S. Bowling Congress. The bowlers were recognized for their bowling skills or their ongoing commitment of service to the association. Matt Putzer was recognized for the Superior Performance Award including at least 12 sanctioned 300 games and eight sanctioned 800 series. Deanne Wass was recognized for the Meritorious Service Award to the local association and its predecessor organization for more than 40 years. Karen Ferreira was recognized for the Love of Bowling Award with her encouragement of others to bowl in leagues and tournaments, frequently recruiting throughout the association. Chris Baird was recognized for the Love of Bowling Award with his passion for the game even on the rough days; with a smile on his face, he encourages others to never give up. Derrick Johnson was recognized with the Star of Tomorrow Award helping the other youth and leading by example with his passion for bowling driving his desire to perform. Mike Bell was recognized as Bowler of the Year winning or placing high in several local tournaments. Colleen Harkins was recognized as Bowler of the Year following her win of the Queens tournament and placing high in other local tournaments. Each of the bowlers received a plaque recognizing their award. The Star of Tomorrow Award also included a $500 scholarship from the local Association.
