The Board of Supervisors presented two proclamations Thursday, one recognizing the contributions of veterans the week of Nov. 7-13, and the second promoting flood awareness the following week of Nov. 13-19.
For the first presentations, several veterans, including Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, joined supervisors in front of the board room in the community center. Supervisor Stan Jones is also a veteran.
The week for recognition coincides with Veterans Day and Operation Green Light. The latter asks residents to turn one exterior light green in their homes or businesses to show appreciation for veterans.
“Carson City appreciates the sacrifices of our United States military personnel and believes specific recognition should be granted,” the proclamation reads.
The second presentation called for public works staff and city engineers to join supervisors. The proclamation came with some bittersweetness as Robb Fellows, a lead engineer who’s been crucial in floodplain management, said he’s retiring.
Public Works Director Darren Schulz commended his colleague and said Fellows has accomplished great things managing local floodplains and preparing Carson City for the future.
“During Nevada Flood Awareness Week, local, state and federal agencies across the state are working together to inform the public about the dangers of flooding, how to protect their homes and families from a flood, and plan for recovery,” states the proclamation.
