The Carson High girls cross country team claimed the first Class 5A state title in program history Saturday in Boulder City.
The Senators did so by edging out two other teams from Northern Nevada in Bishop Manogue and Galena.
Carson ended the meet with 62 team points while the Miners had 70 and the Grizzlies posted 73.
The Senators had five runners place in the top 17, replicating their success from the Class 5A regional meet last week at Reed High School.
Freshman Hannah Budd led the way with an eighth place finish in 19:42.6 while fellow freshman Vea Miner was 12th in 20:02.5.
Sophomore Jinnie Ponczoch was 14th in 20:07.8 and freshman Brianna Rodriguez-Nunez was 16th in 20:17.5.
Madison Hager, another Carson freshman, was just off Rodriguez-Nunez's pace, taking 17th in 20:20.
Sophomore Eleanor Romeo was 40th while senior Sydney Romeo was 72nd.
The most recent girls cross country state title for Carson came in 2011 in Class 4A.
The Senator girls program now has 11 state titles to its name – six in Class 3A, four in Class 4A and Saturday's 5A title.
