Oasis Academy freshman Matthew Bird finished 24th in Saturday’s 2A state cross-country championship in Boulder City.
Bird, who was the school’s second-ever qualifier for state competition, ran the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 38.1 seconds. Incline’s Noah McMahan had the best time with a 16:43.2. North Tahoe won the boys state title by one point over Lincoln County.
Volleyball
The Lady Wave volleyball team saved its best for last, defeating Spring Creek last Wednesday in its final match of the year.
Fallon, which didn’t qualify for the playoffs, bested Spring Creek, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-18, to improve to 4-6 in the 3A East.
Spring Creek, though, got back on track last week by upsetting Lowry in five games and then taking down No. 2 South Tahoe to qualify for the state tournament.
Dayton beat Spring Creek for the regional title on Saturday.
Girls soccer
Fallon was blanked by Spring Creek, 2-0, last Wednesday in its final game of the season.
Fallon, which didn’t qualify for the postseason, fell to 4-5-1 in the 3A East.
