CAPS update: Grateful at Thanksgiving

Bellalina is a lovely 2.5-year-old boxer/pitbull mix. House trained, she is sweet, friendly, and affectionate. She loves hugging people and playing with toys. She does well with dogs and children. Come out and meet her; she is a cutie.

Dear reader, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it is about family, cooking, and food. It is also a time to celebrate thankfulness. I am so grateful we no longer have political commercials! I am sure everyone agrees with me on that.

On this holiday, I will sing the praises of the people who are kind and support our homeless animals. Churchill Animal Protection Society, our local no-kill shelter, has tirelessly advocated for abused and abandoned animals. The volunteers, staff, and board members are heroes to animals.

The 12 original members of CAPS (fondly known as the Dirty Dozen) had a vision that has flourished since 1986. In the beginning, CAPS used the old Post Office but quickly outgrew the space. As the need for a shelter grew, we moved to our present site. The future of CAPS is looking brighter, because we will eventually have access to a new shelter thanks to our wonderful city and county leaders.

Of course, our community deserves a huge shout out for the donations of food, funds, labor, and volunteering. Without you, our mission and coffers would be empty.

CAPS would like to thank all of the companies and volunteer "inmates" who supported our "Going to the Pound" fundraiser. Of course, we thank everyone who helped bail out our esteemed inmates.

Thanks to: Jolene; Lane Mills; Kathy Fraker; J&K Llamas; Caryn; Marjorie Lewis; Rebecca Dugan; Mel Gover; County Museum; Malko's; Greg Malkovich; Camacho Auto Sales; Lucy Carnaham; Mitch Young; Pizza Barn; Widmer & Associates; CC Communications; Cafe Espresso; Mary Sutherland; Sam; Fallon Ford Toyota; Tim Mitchell; John Mulac; Jim & Val; Big Horn; The Village; and Pampered Paws; The Grid.

The money received will help with spaying and neutering our current 25 puppies that are either living at CAPS or in foster homes.

Thanksgiving holiday was founded on the idea of being grateful and thankful for everything that life provides. It is with joy and gratefulness that I thank CAPS and everyone who advocates for them. May your holiday be blessed!
