Smalley leads Tiger all-region selections

Cole Smalley led Douglas High in the Class 5A all-region football selections announced over the weekend.

Smalley, who was a first team selection at linebacker, led the Tigers with 118 tackles on the season, raking him second in Northern Class 5A.

Tiger junior Connor Jackson was a second team selection at running back and an honorable mention player at defensive back this season for Douglas.

Jackson ran for 652 yards and five touchdowns over the course of eight games played.

Joining Jackson on the second team offense were Kyle Koontz at tight end and Jacob Brady at guard.

Koontz had 26 catches for 261 yards this fall.

Brady was also honored on the second team defense at defensive end where he recorded 34 tackles.

At defensive tackle, Kaleb Valdez was named to the second team all-region squad while Zach Westbrook was also selected at defensive back.

Valdez picked up all-region honorable mention honors at kicker as well.

Trace Estes (WR), Jack Ross (Guard), Sage Adie (tackle) and Aden Flory (ATH) were all honorable mention all-region players on offense.

For the Tiger defense, Aaron Tekansik (LB), Estes (LB), Jackson (DB/RS) and Grant Gomes (DB) were named to the honorable mention teams as well.
