Douglas High junior tight end Kyle Koontz will accompany Tiger teammate Jacob Brady to the 2023 Dream All-American Bowl in Dallas this January.
Koontz, a tight end and defensive end, was one of about 180 players across the country to be selected to play in the bowl game.
“I’m really excited. This is my biggest dream – to play at the next level,” said Koontz. “I’ve been putting in a ton of work this season and getting that recognition always feels good.”
The Dream All-American Bowl will take place Jan. 16 at AT&T Stadium – home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Koontz has been attending camps all over the West where he’s been trying to get quicker and make catches through contact.
So far this season, Koontz has hauled in 12 catches for 144 yards while also picking up 59 yards rushing on four attempts.
Defensively, the 6-foot-4 end has used his hands for an interception to go along with a sack and 15 total tackles.
Koontz visited the Dallas Cowboys stadium when he was younger and said he grew up a Cowboys fan, adding to the experience.
With goals of playing collegiate football, the junior believes the Dream Bowl will provide him with plenty of opportunity to showcase his ability.
“I 100 percent believe so,” said Koontz. “There’s going to be a ton of college coaches at the practice and the games, so I think it’ll be a huge help.”
The junior says he loves playing both sides of the ball, but believes tight end could be his route to college.
Brady’s selection to the Dream Bowl was announced earlier.
“That is going to be a really cool experience,” said Koontz. “I know a lot of those kids from camps, but I’m excited to have somebody I’m close with be there.”
