FFA has been a highlight of Edward Morrow’s career at Oasis Academy. He can still remember his first Ag Day freshman year.
“For the first Ag Day I was able to bring a truck and trailer with some hay bales and a dirt bike to show the students. It was a really fun experience with FFA,” Morrow said.
Morrow has been exceptionally active in student activities. He is currently student body president and vice president of FFA. Service has been a big part of his high school career.
“I have been involved in Student Council for five years and FFA for four years. In both groups I've held several different offices. I started the Car Club in my junior year and was part of the Honor Society,” Morrow said.
“Eddie is a go-getter! He even spearheaded restoring an old truck for the car club which netted the club a nice profit at our annual Future Fest Dinner,” principal Rochelle Tisdale added.
“Student activities have been the biggest part of school for me. The classes were one thing but I really enjoyed being able to be part of the school, not just as a student. I realized that these clubs and organizations could teach me more about the real world and make me a more well-rounded person. I wanted to be as involved as possible.”
As one of the original Oasis students Morrow has seen the school grow.
“I started Oasis in 2011 when it opened. I remember almost every change and upgrade throughout the years,” he said. “I'd say I've been pretty lucky to get such caring teachers who showed they cared about me and helped me get to where I am today.”
This includes gratitude for two special individuals that have helped him along the way.
“I would like to give Mrs. Lisa Swan with Student Council and Ms. Jackie Bogdanowicz with FFA a huge thanks for all the opportunities they have given me. I’m grateful for the experiences I have gotten to be part of because of them,” he added.
Morrow will graduate in May with both his Advanced High School Diploma and Associate of Business degree from Western Nevada College. He will then continue his path to a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno. Morrow also wants to earn his commercial driver’s license to work in the trucking industry.
“Have fun at school and don’t let it become a job,” Morrow said.

High school students create magazine covers
Students in the high school government class applied their recent economic lessons to create magazine covers. The fun project was designed to help students understand both micro and macroeconomics. The covers focused on influential business leaders and how their companies impact the economy, locally and then nationally. Some business leaders have made impacts globally as well.
"This project is a fun way students can use their creativity to design a magazine cover while learning about an individual's impact on an economy from various points in their product chain as well as the global economy," said government teacher Eric Grimes.
