It was a big night for Carson High boys soccer Wednesday at home.

The Senators put together their first league win of the season, taking down Spanish Springs, 1-0, with a tally in the final moments.

Carson controlled a majority of the offensive chances as the Cougars starting playing a man down after a red card in the 23rd minute.

In the 75th minute, Spanish Springs had another ejection as a defender pulled down a Carson attacker in on a breakaway.

Two minutes later, the Senators had their first goal of the game courtesy of JJ Rivas.

“We built up this play and I saw Carlos (Orozco) running in. I went wide a little bit, saw a gap, took a touch and right in the top corner,” said Rivas.

Rivas’ goal in the 77th minute was all Carson needed to pick up the win.

“It feels amazing,” said Rivas of the first league win. “The whole team has been working hard, training hard. We’ve been really hungry for these wins.”

With four games left, the Senators are on the outside looking in for the postseason, but are still hoping to add a couple more victories to their season total.
