Why are you running?
I’m running to support the Carson City School system by improving transparency, safety for all students, and to increase parent engagement. I have had 3 children in this school system and believe I can make a positive impact on the lives of others.
Briefly describe the core duties of the position you are running for
I believe the core duties of the school board trustees are to ensure the Superintendent is successful in performing his or her duties. In addition, the school board should provide an open forum for the public to express their appreciation or concern with the existing successes and failures in the school system. We must work together as a cohesive unit to achieve the goals of each school and provide the best educational opportunities for all children in the community.
A brief statement about your platform
Each child is unique and deserves the opportunity to pursue their chosen career path. Children should be able to learn in a safe and supportive environment while being challenged to perform at the best of their abilities. Educators need support from the parents, their superiors within their specific school and district, and the school board. If teachers are not supported well through appropriate funding and curriculum choices, they will lose the passion that drove them to become a teacher in the first place. Children can tell the difference between a teacher counting down the days to retirement and displaying little to no interest in actually teaching the class versus the teachers who get excited to teach and create lasting memories. Children are born with a natural curiosity and desire to learn and I want to work with educators to ensure this continues long after they graduate high school.
What makes you the most qualified candidate for this position?
I wanted to be a teacher but early in my own educational pursuits, I opted against it due to the income range. I became a mom at an early age and needed a career that would financially support my family. My three children all have different learning styles and interests. I’ve been an active parent their entire lives and witnessed firsthand the struggles they each faced. My passion is with the children, not playing politics, and that is why I’m the most qualified candidate. I have spent countless hours speaking with children and parents and learning what they face daily rather than campaign heavily. I love our Carson Proud community and will continue to do whatever is in my power to improve the lives of our Carson City families.

Why are you running?
With 28 years of experience working with Carson City School District, Carson City, and many nonprofit organizations, I can represent various voices in the community. I continue to stay active in community meetings and talk with students, parents, business leaders, and elected officials, which gives me the opportunity to create stronger ties between the school board and the community. While teaching and volunteering, I have always been an advocate for our community’s youth. School board members should be effective communicators, good listeners, willing to work on a team, focus on students and collaborate with the community and school staff.
Briefly describe the core duties of the position you are running for
Carson School Board Trustees are policymakers that are responsible for setting the goals and vision for the school district, appointing, and supporting the superintendent, adopting, and overseeing the school district’s annual budget, meeting federal and state mandates for public schools, and most importantly create a climate that promotes educational excellence.
