Louis and I recently took advantage of the beautiful fall weather and decided to take a day trip to the Bridgeport/Lee Vining/Mono Lake area to enjoy the fall colors.
We loaded up the truck with snacks, our two dogs, and headed for our destination. We were driving through Bridgeport and at the edge of town, an emergency vehicle with flashing lights stopped the flow of traffic because there was a cattle drive. Hundreds of cows crossing the highway, cowboys on horseback helping guide the cows to pasture. It was quite a sight!
While we were sitting in the truck quietly waiting, watching the cows, I thought about how hard it can be to just sit together and not talk. There are times to talk, but it was a time to pause, listen, and be still.
Learning to be comfortable enough with those you love, to just be quiet together. Hold hands. Enjoy the moment. Slow down. Don’t be in a hurry. Breathe. Pause. Be still.
Before we knew it, the road opened up and we were on our way once again. The colors did not disappoint us! It was well worth the drive to get away for a while from the everyday, the busyness, and routines of life.
When seasons change, it can be dramatic. One day hot summer, the next day leaves are falling and changing colors. Soon there will be winter cold and snow and home fires blazing. The seasons of our lives are like that too. Life happens. Put your trust in God, he makes everything beautiful in its time.
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Be still and know that I am God. Psalms 46:10
