Things about the Depot. We observed yesterday great activity about the railroad depot. Work on the buildings was going on rapidly. A large quantity of freight was unloading for this place and loaded cars on every track for Virginia. Timber, lumber, pig iron and merchandise of all kinds, loaded on flats and in box cars, all waiting for the busy men at the tunnel to open up the road and connect again the mines with the outside world.

On Saturday night when a job was put on the Appeal’s Globe press, an attempt was made to revolve the fly wheel when a curious crunching sound caught the attention of the printers. It was found that someone had inserted the neck of a champagne bottle in the cogs of the wheels, in such a place that it could have only gotten there by design. This is about as low and dirty a piece of work as a biped can engage in.

The arms sent to this state by the General Government, and for a long time laying at Reno, arrived here yesterday by rail, and were delivered to the state authorities. Among the lot are four hundred of the Remington’s breach-loading cartridge rifles, two steel ordinance rifled field pieces, six caisson, six extra wheels, and two poles, and about eighty packages of fixed ammunition … all the necessary munitions of war. We understand portions of these will be kept at the state prison.

Sheriff Swift arrested Rattle Snake Dick and a man named Chamberlain on Saturday night charged with robbing Mr. Stone not long since near Empire. These individuals are old convicts and have been hanging around Carson for some time. It is a shameless act for two old line Democrats like these to rob one of their most eminent speakers, who labors so hard for the success of their cause.

Frantic days are ahead here in River City, by Chris Schaller. Frantic times were in River City. First there’s Nevada Day if anyone can remember when it is turned into a three-day blowout. Then Halloween and what night is that? Next is Election Day and last report it was still scheduled for Tuesday, unless Nevada Day is extended …
