NV Energy is asking consumers to reduce electricity usage between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday this week as a heat advisory remains in effect.
NV Energy says the heat wave could create “energy supply concerns.” The power company is asking residents to:
• Adjust the thermostat to 78 degrees or higher to reduce the use of air conditioning (barring any medical issues) and use ceiling fans to cool people and pets. Pre-cool your home prior to 5 p.m.
• Avoid using large electrical appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines and electric clothes dryers
• Turn off pool pumps
• Unplug appliances not in use
• Close window coverings to keep the heat out
• Keep the refrigerator and freezer closed as much as possible
• Do not charge electric vehicles
• Turn off unnecessary lights
Business customers are asked to:
• Unplug appliances and turn off lights not in use
• Delay turning on exterior lighting, if possible
• Adjust the thermostat to 78 degrees or higher (barring any medical issues) to reduce the use of air conditioning and use ceiling fans, if possible
• Pre-cool your facility prior to 5 p.m.
• Defer or reduce all non-essential use of commercial and industrial equipment, such as boilers, exhaust fans, reproduction equipment, maintenance and repair equipment, dispensing machines, intercoms, cleaning equipment, circulating pumps and electric chargers
• Close window coverings to keep the heat out
• Do not charge electric vehicles and equipment between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Tuesday’s high is supposed to be 99 degrees.
Wednesday’s high is supposed to be 98 degrees.
Thursday’s high is supposed to be 97 degrees.
Friday’s high is supposed to be 96 degrees.
Temperatures are expected to be 10 to 20 degrees above normal for this time of the year.
