Carson High girls’ soccer played a tight contest with Damonte Ranch on Tuesday.
As the clock wound down, the Senators pelted chances on net with Addy Morgan and Vanessa Quezada each putting a shot off the post inside of the game’s final five minutes.
Once in stoppage time, Carson High put together another chance in the box, but the Mustangs fouled CHS senior captain Alyssa Tomita, resulting in a penalty kick.
Tomita buried her shot in the right side of the netting to give Carson a 2-1 win at home.
“Last year, they had the penalty kick and beat us 2-1,” said Gracie Walt.
“Yeah, they know exactly how that feels,” added Tomita.
With the number of chances on net throughout the contest, especially in the game’s final moments, the Carson High girls knew the winning tally was on its way.
“I feel like we were keeping possession on their side. I just felt it coming,” said Lyna Alvarado.
Carson’s first goal came off the foot of Jailey Tijerina in the 32nd minute.
Monse Iza fired a shot that deflected off a Mustang defender right to the foot of Tijerina.
From there, Tijerina lifted her shot into the top right corner to tie the contest at 1-1.
“We got in a rhythm and picked it up. I think we did really well with possession and translating what we’ve been doing in practice and the attacking third into the game,” Tomita said.
UP NEXT: Carson (3-2-2, 1-2-1) had its contest Saturday with McQueen postponed due to a lack of officials. The Senators next contest is Tuesday at Reed (2-5, 2-2).
