The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District has been awarded $1.77 million to combat wildfire risks in the basin.
U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., said the money will buy critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles and training for the district.
She said the grant will give the district the resources needed to reduce the risk of wildfires and, “keep our lake communities safe.”
Cortez Masto earlier authored a provision in federal law to provide $10 million for wildfire detection equipment like Lake Tahoe’s ALERT Wildfire camera network. Cortez Masto has also introduced the Western Wildfire Support Act, allowing communities across the West to invest in training, equipment and funding to combat the dangers of forest and rangeland fires.
