The Bighorns baseball team beat Pyramid Lake, 13-3, last Tuesday and swept Yerington’s JV team, 10-5 and 8-7, on Friday in Fallon.
After Yerington tied the game in the seventh inning, Oasis Academy pushed across a run in the eighth to win the second game of Friday’s doubleheader.
The Bighorns led 5-0 after two innings and 7-3 after five before the Lions came back with four runs in the last two innings.
Five Bighorns recorded multiple hits with freshman Trevor Barrenchea leading the team with three and an RBI. Freshmen Ryder McNabb and Matthew Bird each had two hits and two RBIs with McNabb doubling twice. Sophomore Fenn Mackedon finished with two hits and freshman Kayden White had two hits, including a double.
Mackedon picked up the win in relief while Bird notched the save. Mackedon pitched 2.2 innings and struck out five despite giving up three earned runs. Bird pitched three innings and struck out five.
In the 10-5 win over Yerington, Oasis Academy broke a 2-2 tie in the third inning to lead 6-2 before adding three more in the fourth.
Joshua Gusewelle led the team with three hits and an RBI while junior Sebastian Gomez-Holguin and freshman Barrenchea each had two hits. Bird and Holguin each led the team with two RBIs.
On the hill, McNabb picked up the win, going 4.1 innings and striking out eight. Bird pitched the rest of the game in relief, striking out two.
McNabb and Kayden White led the Bighorns with three hits against Pyramid Lake. White was a triple shy of the cycle as he also drove in one. Bird also homered and drove in four white Holguin doubled and singled in two runs.
White pitched three innings for the win and struck out two. McNabb pitched the last two, striking out three while not allowing a hit or walk.
Softball
The Bighorns softball team added two wins to move to 4-0.
Oasis Academy swept Whittell in last Wednesday’s doubleheader, 17-0 and 28-11.
Kirsten Detomasi led the team in the first game with three hits and six RBIs, including a double and home run, coming up a triple shy of the cycle. Sophomore Taylynn Maynez had two hits and two RBIs, while sophomore Lorena Rios doubled in two runs and senior Stacy Bogdanowicz doubled in one. Sophomore Kaylin Guthrie had two RBIs.
Detamosi pitched the three-inning shutout, striking out six and giving up one walk and one hit.
An 18-run first inning set the tone in the second game.
Guthrie drove in four runs and tripled to lead the Bighorns, and freshman Taylor Hyde singled three times and drove in three runs. Detomasi doubled twice and drove in two, and senior Lainey Hyde, Maynez and Bogdanowicz each had two RBIs.
Bogdanowicz picked up the win in the circle, striking out five in two innings. Detamosi struck out two of the three batters she faced.
