Douglas High softball picked up its seventh and eighth wins in a row this weekend with victories of 5-1 and 7-2 over the Reed Raiders.
The Tigers are the lone undefeated team in Class 5A North regional play with a 6-0 record after the weekend sweep.
In game one, Talia Tretton was lights out in the circle fanning 15 hitters in seven innings of work.
The junior allowed one hit and walked one batter in the win. Tretton was also 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a walk.
Maddie Gooch, Ava Delaney and Haley Wilkinson all had multi-hit performances in the opener with Gooch driving in a pair of runs. All three doubled as well.
In the second contest, the Tigers went right back to Tretton as she recorded 11 strikeouts while again only allowing one earned run.
Gooch was 3-for-3 with an RBI in the second game.
Cam McClelland hit another home run this season in the fifth, driving in three runs after a no-doubt home run to center field.
UP NEXT: Douglas (16-4, 6-0) will be back on the field Thursday at Damonte Ranch (6-9, 2-1) before a Saturday doubleheader at Reno (2-14, 0-3).
Tiger baseball falls to Galena
Galena now leads the season series with Douglas baseball 2-1 after an 8-5 win over the Tigers on Saturday.
After the Grizzlies put up five runs in the top of the second, Douglas answered by drawing three walks with the bases loaded to cut the deficit to two.
Aaron Moss came around to score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to bring Douglas within one, 5-4, but the Grizzlies were able to plate the next three runs before the Tigers found the scoreboard again in the seventh.
Keegan Snooks drove in Carter Bleeker with an RBI single in the seventh.
Bleeker had a pair of hits for the Tigers, including a double.
Jackson Ovard and Sean Lemming both recorded a hit as well.
UP NEXT: Douglas (7-11 overall, 4-6 in Class 5A league play) will host Galena (9-5-1, 3-3) again Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
Tiger girls track and field 2nd at Galena
It was another top-tier performance from the Douglas High girls track and field team over the weekend as the Tigers took second place as a team out of 17 teams in attendance.
Douglas’ 107 team points were 17 behind first-place Reno.
In the sprints, freshman Grace Strabala set a personal record with a 13.08 finish in the 100-meter dash to take third.
In the 200, Bliss Moody posted a top-five finish with a 26.91 result to finish fifth.
The two paired up with sophomore Kaylee Bradford and freshman Aubrey Hansen to run a 51.01 in the 4x100 relay where the won the event.
Logan Karwoski and Kiley Girdner joined Bradford and Moody in the sprint medley relay as the foursome combined for third place in 1:58.63.
Karwoski went on to win the high jump event as the only girl to clear the five-foot bar. Ava Coons was fourth with a top clearance of 4-8.
Seniors Sophie Marchut and Megan Strand continue to earn chunks of team points with top-end results in the shot put and discus.
Marchut was second in the discus (92 feet, 8.5 inches) and third in the shot put with a throw of 32-7.25.
Strand was right behind Marchut in both events with a third-place throw in the discus of 92-8.5 and a fourth-place toss in the shot put of 31-7.25.
Elizabeth Gneiting won the long jump, setting a personal record of 15 feet, 6.5 inches.
Karwoski was fourth in the long jump with a season record of 15-3.
Coons finished in fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.83 while freshman Katelyn Coons was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking in at 50.88.
On the boys side, Douglas finished in fifth place as a unit with 63 team points.
McQueen won the boys side of the meet with 101 points.
AJ Thurston put together another memorable performance after setting a PR in the 200 meters in 22.53.
Thurston also took fourth in the 100 meters in 11.38.
Joel Nord was seventh for the Tigers in the 800-meter run in 2:09.18.
In the one mile, Jackson Davis finished in third for the Tigers with a PR tie of 4:31.32 while Luke Davis was sixth in 4:39.83.
Jackson Davis turned around with a season record of 10:10.16 in the 3,200 for third place.
Two relay teams had top three finishes as well with the 4x100 (Mateo Esquivel, Joshua Nelson, Connor Jackson and Thurston) taking second in 44.05.
Nelson, Thurston and Jackson linked up with Zakery Weddell for a third place finish in 1:39.50 in the sprint medley relay.
Kyle Koontz set a PR in the shot put for the second weekend in a row, measuring a throw of 43 feet, 11.5 inches to take fifth place overall.
Sophomore Trace Estes cleared 5-8 in the high jump to take third while Jackson was also third in the long jump, recording a jump of 19-6.5.
