Gin and water. The local luminary of the Virginia Evening Chronicle says that Tahoe is a Paiute word signifying water. It is nothing of the kind. It is a Pennsylvania Dutch word signifying Bigler.

The governor’s dilemma. Under the new law the governor is commander-in-chief of the combined army and navy of the state, including marines, foot soldiers, calvary and raw recruits. Under the new law, Storey County can have but two companies of infantry, and the governor must disband three companies. The governor has been staying up nights trying to figure out which one to disband and not lose any votes. He has captain Mathewson to inspect the companies and see which one is the most efficient. That way, he can refer the malcontents to the captain and get along without any trouble.

A well-known resident of Reno received a severe horse whipping last Saturday night on Second Street in Reno and the hands of his sister-in-law, while his wife refereed the fight. The man was enjoying a night with the boys when his wife appeared on the scene in time to see him do the skirt dance. It is just another case of a poor man marrying a whole family. — Gazette

Edgar Henry, charged with shooting and killing George Shortridge at the Toiyabe saloon at Gabbs March 21, has been held for trial on the charge of first-degree murder.

A temperance lecture will take place to-night at the Methodist Church. The lecturer is reputed to be one of the most eloquent and gifted speakers on the Pacific coast; and we not only hope that he may have a full and appreciative audience, but that his teachings may produce the desired results. There is many a confirmed stiff hereaway that ought to go and be converted, sober up and die.

Carson wins. There was a large crowd at Treadway’s on Sunday to watch the baseball game between nine Carson boys and a like number of men from the Comstock. On the ninth inning of the Carson boys, they were one ahead of the Virginia club and had no one out. The Comstockers then gave up the game. The excitement was fully as great as if a $30,000 horse race was being run.

The expected has happened. Tonopah has another big strike to record and everybody, whether directly interested or not, is glad to hear the good news. Two strikes, in fact, have been made in the past few days which will bring another boom to the camp.

Five Waco trainer planes have been acquired by the Pathfinder Flying Service for the instructor course now being given at the Carson airport. On Wednesday of this week Mr. Von Berg and instructors Bob Blair, Earl Henry and Clyde West brought four Waco’s from Phoenix.

Carson City citizens against a prison honor camp at the former Stewart Indian School are mobilizing what may be a formidable campaign. A spokesman for the group says they already have 1,100 signatures opposing the camp.

A plan by a nonprofit group to take over and rehabilitate the state’s Clear Creek Camp as a youth camp for the Future Farmers of America ran into opposition from two state officials Tuesday.

Colonel Curry desires it to be stated that the corner stone of the new Rosser Building (southwest corner of Carson and Robinson Streets) will be laid with such appropriate ceremonies as may be conjured up by the gifted orators, clergymen, judges and literary men who are invited to be resent at and participate on the occasion. The latest additions to the Norris & Rose’s big shows are a pair of beautiful Siberian Camels which were shipped form the Hagenback Zoo in Germany. These grotesque creatures, which recall many recollections of Arabian romances are fast becoming extant and in a short time these “children of the desert” will be a thing of the past.
