A traveling circus using an ice-like surface is coming to the Carson City Community Center on April 21, and event organizers are hoping residents turn out for a unique show.
“I think they should come because, first of all, there’s not always the chance to see these types of performers together in one show,” said Daniela Mercado, manager of Las Vegas-based Circus on Ice.
Circus on Ice will have two showings at the community center April 21, one starting at 4:30 p.m. and one at 7 p.m. Cost is $24.99 for adults and $14.99 for children.
Tickets can be purchased online: https://www.showclix.com/events/31683.
Mercado said the circus uses panels of synthetic ice that can be easily installed for performances without the upkeep of a traditional ice rink.
“The material is getting more popular to use at theaters and convention centers,” she said. “Ice skaters can do all the things they can do on real ice.”
The circus will feature ice skaters, jugglers, tumblers, a clown and a giant polar bear puppet.
“We are 10 performers,” said Mercado. “I have people from all over the world.”
Mercado herself, along with her husband, moved from Argentina to the U.S. in 2019. She said they’ve been running Circus on Ice for three years.
“We have been doing shows most of our life,” she said. “We are involved in the circus in Argentina, and now are performing here.”
Both shows will also feature Cristian Lopez and Paola Coria who specialize in Malambo, an Argentinian dance.
“They are well known in Argentina,” Mercado said.
She said the circus will entertain all ages.
“It’s a nice combination for the family. Adults and children will have a good time together,” she said.
