A firefighter and paramedic with Carson City Fire Department has been named Carson City employee of the quarter.
On April 20, Houston Berntson was called to the front of the boardroom during the Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting. Mayor Lori Bagwell read a proclamation, and Berntson received a giant $200 check.
“We owe a substantial debt of gratitude to the Carson City employees and applaud those who go above and beyond in their loyalty and ability,” reads the proclamation.
According to a nomination form signed by Fire Chief Sean Slamon, Deputy Fire Chief Aaron Lowe and EMS Division Chief Sandy Wartgow, Berntson took initiative in learning a new record management system for incidents.
“Specifically, he has developed and implemented a Carson City Fire specific EMS chart documentation to ensure accurate patient care is provided and documented,” reads the nomination form. “This will be critical for improved patient care, identifying training priorities, and fiscally improve the recovery fees associated with these incidents. Thus, providing for more effective patient care and efficient government service.”
According to the human resources department, the employee-of-the-quarter program “recognizes employees whose efforts have helped the city achieve the strategic goals adopted by the Board of Supervisors and who have displayed proficiency at assigned duties, promoted a pleasant working environment, who are dependable, innovative and/or who provide excellent customer service.”
The last employee of the quarter was Senior Project Manager Darren Anderson of Public Works. He was recognized in January.
