The Churchill County Democrats’ annual Sawyer-Bryan Dinner and fundraiser May 6 will feature the Nevada secretary of state as its main speaker.
The dinner, which is named after two prominent Nevada governors, Grant Sawyer and Richard Bryan, will be held at the Fallon Convention Center. The festivities will include a raffle and silent auction.
The dinner begins at 6 p.m. and will be catered by Wildhorse Café.
Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar, the keynote speaker, was elected to his first term in 2022. He will discuss the voting system and other current topics.
Aguilar brings a unique perspective and expertise into the Secretary of State’s office as an attorney and small business owner with years of experience in the private and public sectors,
Aguilar earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and accounting, Master of Business Administration and law degree all from the University of Arizona. He’s a member of the Nevada, California, and Arizona bars.
More than 20 years ago, Aguilar moved to Nevada and has spent his time working to improve the Silver State as an active member of his communities. He is the founding chairman of Cristo Rey St. Viator Board of Trustees. Cristo Rey serves students in one of Las Vegas’ most vulnerable neighborhoods and provides a work-study program designed to prepare them for future careers.
During his career, Aguilar has worked as special counsel to the chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education. His expertise in the intersection of athletics and law led to an appointment to the Nevada Athletic Commission, which regulates boxing and mixed martial arts.
Aaron Sims, chair of the Rural Nevada Democratic Caucus, will also speak about what’s in store for rural Nevada in the next two years.
