Dan McAllister was indicted for selling liquor to an Indian, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment. This was one of the largest sentences ever administered in Washoe County and should prove a wholesome lesson to similar offenders. — Journal

District attorney Frank B. Gregory and sheriff Harold F. Brooks went to the Reno air base this forenoon to attend the general court martial of the two soldiers charged with the burglarizing of the Burlington shoe store in Carson, the theft of an automobile in Reno and being absent from quarters without leave.

The locomotives Reno, Virginia and Lyon are all in the repair shop of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad Company at present. The Reno has had her drivers turned and she has received a general overhauling and will be out in a few days to resume her place on the express train. The Virginia will be out next week. The Ormsby takes the place of the Lyon, a switch engine for Virginia and Gold Hill and the Storey takes the place of the Ormsby on the gravel train between Gold Hill and Mound House.

The Chinese proprietor, editor and reporter of the Chinese newspaper, Hong Kong, was arrested Wednesday night in a lottery den in San Francisco. He claimed immunity from arrest, as he was in the discharge of his duties, and that the supreme court had decided that reporters could go anywhere in pursuit of information. His claim was admitted.

On the progress of the Sutro Tunnel the Virginia Chronicle says this great adit is now in a distance of 3,864 feet, an advance of 23 feet having been made since last Saturday. A large stream of water was tapped during the week, which burst from a drill hole in the bottom of the tunnel with a rush and a noise that could be heard for a long distance. The stream was exhausted in five to six hours.

About 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon a regular old-time snowstorm set in, but the atmosphere was warm, and the snow melted as fast as it fell. At times the flakes seemed to combine in the air, and some which floated down to the ground were half as big as one’s hand.

The surveys to take water from the lower Truckee by a dam and canal and introduce it into the Carson River some miles above the sink are progressing rapidly. At present there are four parties in the field. This work is being done by the government under the provisions of the irrigation law passed by the last session of congress.
