Dirt-track racing highlights final July weekend

Fans were in for a treat last weekend with a two-day racing event at Rattlesnake Raceway.

In addition to the races, a meet-and-greet and water balloon fight between the kids and drivers took place before Saturday night’s main event.

Heading into the second half of the season, the Lahontan Auto Racing Association standings remain tight in the eight divisions.

Two weekends remain until the 37th-annual Dirt Track Championship on Oct. 6 and 7. The next races are Aug. 18 and 19, and Sept. 15 and 16.

Lovelock’s Kent Knisley leads the Mini Stock division with 486 points, holding a lead over Fallon’s Cooper Lee (468) and Colton Blankenship (460). Knisley and Lee split over the weekend with Lee winning his first race of the season on Friday.

Fallon’s Jesse Gonzalez leads Fallon’s Mikki Beuchat, 469-440, in the Street Stock division, while Dayton’s Randy Boyd (389) is ahead of Silver Springs’ Carl Barlow (377) and Jimmy Berhorst (365) to round out the top five.

Reno’s Joe Frock has a 21-point lead (250-220) over Yerington’s Glenn Sciarani in the Dwarf division, and Fallon’s William Christiano is in third with 224 points.

In the Bootlegger division, Fallon’s Joseph Keough leads Jerome Kleve, as of Fallon, 436-409. Fallon’s Sam Miller is third with 377 points followed by Carson City’s Shari Hollis with 332.

Reno’s Brandon Ternora and Nick Purdy are tied for first with 190 points in the Sprint Cars division, and Reno’s Grasen Ternora is third with 135 points.

Reno’s Wade Lumsdenl leads the IMCA Modified division by one point over Katelynn Robertson, 349-348. Fernley’s Melissa Natenstedt is in third with 281 points followed by Reno’s Dave Sciarroni, 275, and Fernley’s Shawn Natenstedt, 259.

In the IMCA Stock Car division, Fallon’s Rusty McMillian leads Winnemucca's Marie Curtis, 367-357, followed by Reno’s Jacob Dias with 334 points.

Reno’s Atonia Aragon has a two-point lead over Fallon’s Travis White, 50-48, in the Pro Stock, and close behind are Fallon’s Robert Grace (45), Grass Valley, California’s Brent Lawrence (44), Lovelock’s Danneeka Garretson (42), Blane Hill (40) and Reno’s Daniel Vlaszof (39).

Fernley’s Ray Ballard leads the IMCA Northern Sportmod division, 272-253, over Pahrump’s Joe Wabsis. Fallon’s Hayden White is in third with 223 points followed by Fernley’s Jason Jovanelly, 209, and Lovelock’s Ainsleigh Evenson, 200.
