Periodic lane and ramp closures will take place on Interstate 580 in Washoe Valley beginning Monday, Aug. 7 as the Nevada Department of Transportation enhances roadway lighting.
The majority of construction will take place on the roadside shoulder but drivers will see the following intermittent lane and ramp closures.
• Periodic lane closures on both directions of I-580 between Eastlake Boulevard and Bowers Mansion/Old 395 exit 16 weekdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. beginning through late October. One lane will remain open in each direction during these periodic lane closures.
• Intermittent overnight ramp closures will also take place at the Eastlake Boulevard, Bellevue Road and old U.S. 395 exits between 9 p.m.-5 a.m. weekdays. Nearby detours will be available, and no two consecutive ramps will be closed at the same.
Speeds will be reduced to 55 mph through active work zones. The road work schedule is subject to change.
NDOT will upgrade select existing roadway lighting as a pilot project to test the effectiveness of managed lighting. Managed lighting can offer more effective lighting maintenance through automated alerts to NDOT staff when light maintenance is needed, reducing both the time needed to schedule and impact of lighting outages. Certain managed roadway lighting can also automatically dim roadway lighting when no vehicles are present for energy efficiency and reduced light emission.
Motorists should use caution while traveling through work zones, and take alternate detour routes, if possible. NDOT works with Waze to inform the public about planned highway restrictions.
