Carson High School football couldn’t keep pace with Sutter for the second season in a row as the Huskies rolled to a 54-7 win Friday night.
The Senators had a tough time getting the offense jumpstarted, which was only hampered by the loss of starting quarterback Kincaid Gill in the second quarter due to injury.
After falling behind 13-0, Jake Weninger bolted 90 yards for the Senators’ lone score.
Weninger flashed his ability to get valuable yardage on special teams a few other times Friday night.
The Huskies punted on their first drive of the game, but scored touchdowns on each of their next three possession to move in front 21-7 with 8:27 to go in the first half.
After a Sutter pooch punt pinned Carson at the 1-yard line, the Senators ensuing punt gave the Huskies field position in the red zone.
Two plays later, Sutter was in the end zone again.
Carson made a defensive stand to end the opening half, keeping the Huskies out of the end zone as they started their final drive of the half in Senator territory.
The Huskies forced six turnovers and blocked a punt, which they recovered for a touchdown in the middle of the third quarter.
Following the special teams touchdown, Sutter led 35-7.
UP NEXT: This Friday Carson (0-1) will return for its home opener against Calaveras. Last season, the Senators bested the Redhawks 14-0.
