The Senator volleyball team opened the 2023 campaign with an 8-0 record at the Yerington tournament over the weekend.

Carson dropped just two sets combined in the eight contests.

Senior Sarah Miller led the way with 18 kills while Abby Franco and Dana Myrehn both tallied 17 kills.

Senior Anna Turner added 12 kills for Carson.

Miller and Turner put together four blocks apiece while junior Ava Kordonowy had a team-high 28 digs.

UP NEXT: Carson will open at home Thursday against Spanish Springs at 6 p.m.


Dayton volleyball wins two of three to open season

The Dust Devil volleyball team, coming off a state tournament appearance and a Class 3A North title, opened a new season with wins over Oasis Academy and Sierra Sage.

Dayton will have a new look this fall after seven seniors graduated from last season’s team.

UP NEXT: The Dust Devils will travel to Galena on Thursday for another non-league contest.


Dayton football bests Yerington

The Dust Devil football team toppled Yerington, 35-20, Saturday to open the 2023 campaign at 1-0.

Junior quarterback Camren Candland was 10-for-14 for Dayton with 180 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the win.

Candland also scampered for 50 yards on seven carries.

His favorite target was senior wideout Justin Neils, who hauled in five catches for 155 yards and three scores.

Trevor Gardner also pulled down a 14-yard touchdown reception for the Dust Devils.

Junior running back Archie Ervin also scored while piling up 85 yards on nine carries.

UP NEXT: Dayton will host South Tahoe (0-1) Friday at 7 p.m.
