Volleyball: Fallon, Oasis Academy play first matches

The Fallon and Oasis Academy volleyball teams competed in last weekend’s annual Yerington tournament.

Oasis Academy, which now competes in the 2A, finished 3-3 in the tournament, picking up a pair of wins over Sierra Sage Academy (ROP) and Wells.

Sophomore Grace Laca led the team with 13 kills over the six matches and sophomore Alyssa Ayers added 11 kills. Sophomore Dahlila Creer led the team in aces with 13 and Laca had eight. Laca also had four block solos and one assist.

Junior Kaylin Guthrie and freshman Lakota Casey each tied for the team-high in digs with four, and sophomore Taylor Hyde, freshman Hazel Mackedon and Laca each had two. Ayers and Creer split time at setter with Ayers leading the team in assists with 13 and Creer adding 12.

The Bighorns will be back in action at the Hug tournament in Reno on Saturday before hosting Pershing County in the league opener on Aug. 30.

Fallon, which competes in the 3A, finished 4-2 over the weekend.

After falling to McQueen on Friday, Fallon defeated Silver Stage (2A) and Wells (1A). The Wave fell to Douglas (5A) in straight sets Saturday but defeated Eureka and Pershing County. No statistics were available.

Fallon opens the league season at Lowry, which advanced to last year’s state tournament, on Aug. 31.
