Emergency calls for a brush fire on Washoe Tribe land in south Carson City came in at 1:05 p.m. Thursday, and by 1:30 p.m., crews for the Carson City Fire Department had the small blaze out and were mopping up.
The fire occurred in brush at the corner of Boyle and Shoshone streets, near the grass-laden foothills that lead up the Carson Range. CCFD Capt. Bryon Hunt estimated the fire was 25 feet by 25 feet. He said they the department didn’t have to use a hydrant but had enough water in the responding brush rig.
“We have no idea on the cause or origin,” he said. “We came, we saw, and we put it out.”
The remnants of Hurricane Hilary brought cool temperatures and rain to the region over the weekend, but temperatures have climbed back into the mid-80s, and vegetation is drying out.
