A structure fire was reported at 4:35 p.m. Thursday near Betts Street in south Carson City. The Carson City Fire Department staged on Lennox Street laying hose connected to a nearby fire hydrant as a plume of smoke rose over Washoe Tribe land immediately to the south.

Fire Chief Sean Slamon confirmed the structure was a trailer within the northern boundary of Washoe property and had suffered significant damage. The fire was extinguished by 5 p.m., he said.

Neighbors in the area, including Tom Foster of Lennox Street, told the Appeal they had heard explosions. Slamon said the explosions were likely from fuel tanks that caught fire. He said crews found no one inside the structure though a more extensive search was planned in coordination with tribal police.

A small brush fire two blocks south of the trailer fire, at the intersection of Shoshone and Boyle streets, was was extinguished around 1:30 p.m. Thursday without a known cause.
