Carson High football didn’t have to sweat its slow start against Calaveras after outscoring the Redhawks 19-6 in the second half Friday night.

The three second half touchdowns allowed the Senators to put together a 26-6 win over Calaveras, the second time Carson has bested the California team in as many seasons.

Defense and special teams

While it took some time for the Carson offense to get going, the Senator defense was ready to go from the opening whistle.

Due to Carson turnovers, Calaveras was able to start its first three drives of the contest inside of Carson’s 40-yard line.

All three ended in turnover on downs as Carson rejected the Redhawks from advancing each time.

Early in the second quarter, Angelo Macias was able to put the first points of the game on the board as he broke free for a 48-yard touchdown run.

The 7-0 lead would last until moments after halftime when Calaveras hauled back the second half kickoff for a touchdown.

After a missed extra point, Carson’s special teams got to return the favor.

The Senators responded with their own kickoff return for a score, leading 13-6 with 11:26 left in the third quarter.

The Redhawks next drive ended with a blocked punt as the Senators jumped on some opportunistic field position of their own.

Taking over at the 13, the Senators pushed the line of scrimmage to the 1-yard line before Kincaid Gill snuck in for a touchdown.

After another missed PAT, Carson led 19-6 with 7:08 left in the third quarter.

The Senator offense wasn’t done just yet as Ethan Hendee hauled in a 35-yard touchdown reception to give Carson a 26-6 lead with 2:33 left in the third quarter.

Hendee wore No. 36 Friday night in honor of Jake Roman.

Carson’s defense would hold for another interception and didn’t allow any offensive points throughout the contest.

UP NEXT: Carson (1-1) will travel south to Henderson to take on Basic High School next Friday at 7 p.m.
