The Carson City Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit announced Wednesday Deputy Ryan Greb and K-9 Proton are the unit’s newest team.
“Deputy Greb has been with the sheriff’s office for more than seven years,” officials said in a news release. “He is a SWAT team lead, and he’s a field training officer in the Patrol Division.”
Proton is an 18-month-old Belgian Malinois.
“Proton specializes in drug detection, tracking and apprehension,” officials said.
The sheriff’s office is building on the existing K-9 unit, “working toward achieving a full complement of eight K-9 teams.”
“Proton brings the unit total to seven teams, and we’ll look to add our eighth K-9 team by spring,” officials said. “These endeavors are expensive, and we are currently raising funds for the next dog, a K-9 outfitted vehicle and safety equipment to keep the dogs safe.”
