This week’s senior in the spotlight is Laura Bennett. Laura is an exceptional young woman; she is a strong student with clear ambitions. Bennett’s academics really speak for themselves. She has always been a hard worker, earning high marks in her increasingly difficult classes. She is on track to earning her Advanced Placement Capstone diploma as well as completing the Project Lead the Way architecture and civil engineering program. She currently has a 5.2 weighted grade point average and is ranked second in a class of almost 500.
Bennett's interest in architecture led her to a summer internship with Tectonics Design Group where she was able to not only help with design but meet with clients of the firm. She was also awarded High School Merit Honoree from the Sierra Nevada Section of the Society of Women Engineers.
Bennett always has been a doer. She is involved in numerous activities, including theater, sports and clubs. Not a stranger to the spotlight, Bennett grew up on the stage. She has been part of the youth theater group Wild Horse Productions for several years. Throughout the years, she participated as an actor in 31 productions. She also has worked behind the scenes, helping with choreography, set building and tech. As part of the Wild Horse competition team, she was an actor, choreographer and dance captain, bringing home numerous awards from the Junior Theater Festival. Bennett was recognized for her excellent commitment to theater with the Spirit of Wild Horse award. If you would like to see her on stage, Bennett is performing as Demeter in the Wild Horse production of "Cats" at the Brewery Arts Center from Dec. 1 to 10.
Along with her dedication to theater, Bennett is also an active member at Carson High School. She is a four-year varsity tennis player and an active member of the Future Business Leaders of America. She went to state twice for FBLA and has placed in both public speaking and impromptu at the state level.
Bennett plans to earn her degree in architecture. She has applied to multiple universities and already has been accepted into a few. She looks forward to making her decision this spring. Carson High School would like to wish Bennett luck in "Cats" as well as in her future endeavors.
