A 65-year-old Carson City man died while mountain biking on the Lincoln Bypass Trail in west Carson on Sunday afternoon, according to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

An autopsy will be performed, but initial reports indicate the man suffered cardiac arrest while riding, Sheriff Ken Furlong said Monday.

“We don’t know a ton,” he said. “He did have some issues that will be looked at in the autopsy. Apparently, he had some sort of accident prior to yesterday’s event. The medical examiner will look at what was going on medically prior to the incident.”

The identity of the man had not been released as of Monday.

Furlong said the man was riding with another person who reported the incident.

Carson City Fire Department also responded to the scene.

“To access the patient, we used an ATV and had to walk in a little further to make contact,” Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon said Monday.
