Six games into his first season as Carson High girls basketball coach, Steven Nichols has resigned.
Carson High School athletic director Thomas Reymer said Wednesday evening that assistant coach Nate Tolbert will become the interim coach.
"We have placed an interim head coach as part of the program moving forward," said Reymer. "All of the other coaches plan on staying onboard and we look forward to moving forward and supporting them."
Tolbert previously coached the Senators from 2012 to 2015.
Nichols was originally hired in late April by outgoing athletic director Blair Roman.
When reached by text message, Nichols declined further comment.
Reymer said he couldn't comment further on Nichols' resignation.
So far this season, the Carson girls are 3-3. The Senators play at home Thursday against Spanish Springs at 5:15 p.m.
