A Carson City woman will celebrate her 104th birthday Sunday.

Betty Lee Langston recently moved from Southern California to Carson City to live with her son, David Langston.

David, 78, said they will spend this weekend honoring his mother.

“We are taking her out to lunch Saturday and Sunday,” David said. “We figured she had to be brought up here. She’s now living here.”

Betty, a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District for more than 30 years, taught in the 1940s through the 1960s. Both of her parents also were teachers.

“It just seemed to be a good way to have an income,” she told the Appeal. “None of my children went into teaching.”

Betty married George Langston and they had two sons and a daughter, Diana, who has passed away.

“They’re very good to me,” she said of her family.

She taught in the primary schools, focusing on kindergarten, first and second grades. She met her husband when he was stationed in Southern California.

“We would eventually marry and we transferred everywhere,” she said. “I finally ended up in Carson City.”
