CCHS has two esports teams that have qualified for the final tournament through the playVS Esports organization.
“The tournament takes the top players from the entire Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Winners of the tournament are awarded up to $6,000 in scholarship money to share as a team,” teacher Aaron Holt said.
Team Super Smash Brothers (Brian Gardiner, Hunter Clark, Seth Smith, Roy Francisco and Douglas Calahan) is currently the number one seed to win a scholarship through Esports. Team Mario Kart 8 (Lee Oakley, Peter Cann, Keoni Burrow, Brian Gardiner, Doug Calahan, Humphrey Arata and Kalel Burnett) is currently the number three seed.
“This is such an incredible feat for these students. I am very proud of their hard work and dedication,” Holt said.

Advisory students at CCMS are showing off their crafting skills and getting into the holiday spirit on club days.
Students in Zoey Brown’s class decorated cookies while students in Torri Conley’s class designed and painted wood slice ornaments. When students signed up for classes, they picked a club based on something they were interested in. Then the club they picked became their advisory class. Teachers get extended time on Fridays to do fun activities with their advisory students.
“Students do advisory activities Monday through Thursday that are primarily academically driven. Then on Fridays, they have 40 minutes for advisory which is dedicated to club time, ” said middle school Principal Robbie Wickware.

Leslie Brown's fifth-grade class spread Christmas Cheer last week by visiting other classrooms to share their rendition of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
The students learned the poem by heart, and then divided it up so that groups of four to five students each recited a section.
“It was so much fun to hear how expressively they recited their section,” said school counselor Noreen Swenson. “They definitely took the time to get it right and make it fun. It was a great way to spread some holiday cheer through our classrooms.”

ECB recently had its annual Jingle Jog.
Local first responders came to help pass out peppermint candies and the student's families attended and participated in laps as well. This is a friendly little competition between classes.
Each student and their families complete laps and at the end of each lap, they are given a peppermint candy by the first responders. Once the time is up, students return to their classrooms to count their laps (peppermint candies), and the number is reported to Principal Keith Boone.
The class that has the most laps wins a fun prize. This annual event has become quite a popular and treasured tradition and is loved by all ECB staff, students and families.
LAHONTAN
Students and their families flooded Lahontan for their annual Winterfest celebration. This has been a treasured event for many years.
Winterfest is a time to gather families and provide fun crafts and activities that students and their families can complete. It is a fundraiser for the school that supports activities for students throughout the year including the end of the year celebration. This year students and their families made fun Christmas crafts, enjoy yummy treats, play fun holiday games, and they met and took a picture with Santa. There were some incredible raffle items as well.
“Family engagement nights like these are always our favorite,” said school principal Kimi Melendy.
“This one is extra special though because it is our kick-off to the holiday season with our students and their families. It was a night jam-packed with fun for everyone. I cannot thank my staff enough for making this night possible and our families for coming out.”
