Quaker recalls 43 products due to salmonella risk; products sold in Northern Nevada

The Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall of 43 granola products that have been sold in all 50 states, including several locations in Northern Nevada, as well as Puerto Rico, Guam and Saipan due to the potential of salmonella contamination.

Recalled items include Quaker Chewy Bars, Quaker granola cereals and certain snack boxes containing Quaker granola bars.

According to a press release, the Quaker Oats Co. has not received any confirmed reports of illness from products due to the recall. Salmonella has the potential to cause serious and often fatal infection among young children and vulnerable populations.

Healthy persons who become infected with salmonella could experience symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, and bloodstream infections are possible.

A full list of affected products with best-by dates as early as January 2024 is available at the FDA’s website.

Northern Nevada Public Health encourages consumers to follow the FDA’s guidance and check pantries for recalled items and discard any recalled granola products that are found.
